How Is Brain Imaging Used in Autism Research?
The four techniques of measuring the brain are used to compare people diagnosed with ASD (an ASD cohort) with people who have not been diagnosed with ASD (a control cohort). The idea is that if we can find a difference between the two cohorts, then we might have found a difference in the brain of a person with autism that will help us to understand what is happening in ASD. More specifically, each type of study has different implications, as follows.
